Sika Canada opens British Columbia plant

Wednesday, March 30, 2016

Sika Canada has officially opened its new mortars and concrete admixtures plant in Surrey, British Columbia. Sika Canada is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Switzerland-based Sika AG, a global specialty chemicals company for the building and construction industries and manufacturing sector. This new facility is Sika’s fourth production facility in Canada and is one of its 18 sites in North America.

With a location near Vancouver, the 30,000 square-foot, fully-operational plant gives Sika access to the Pacific Northwest’s population of eight million people, allowing significant growth potential on both sides of the border.

Customers in the region are benefitted by the location because it improves product availability, significantly reduces lead times and allows for faster deliveries. The location also alleviates the strain on the Edmonton and Montreal plants to meet shipments headed west and minimizes the company’s environmental impact by reducing the number of shipments sent by truck and rail. Raw materials are also sourced locally when possible, reducing shipment distances.

The highly-automated facility follows Sika’s efficient manufacturing concept, including modular mortar plant and state-of-the-art liquid concrete admixture blending equipment in one facility. The building also features two quality control laboratories, an integrated warehouse and office space for administrative and sales personnel.

The plant was constructed to meet local environmental regulations concerning air quality, noise restrictions and the handling of light chemical materials.
