GTA new home sales outpace 10-year average

Toronto condo earns LEED Gold certification
Reflections Condominium (Reflections), a 12-storey condo development in Toronto's North York region, has earned a LEED Gold certification from the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC). A joint venture project by FRAM Building Group and Cadillac Fairview Corporation, the 106-unit residential development was recently completed and is one of a few condo developments to receive the Gold certification.

Calgary approves multi-family recycling bylaw
As of Feb. 1, 2016, Calgary multi-family building residents will have access to more robust on-site recycling services under the region’s new council-approved Waste & Recycling Bylaw. Apartments, condominiums, townhouses and other multi-family complexes will be required to accept paper and cardboard, food cans, glass jars, plastic containers and bags. The City of Calgary will not collect multi-family recycling, but builder owners and managers will be tasked with determining which private company best serves the needs of their building.

Montreal condo sales dip in January: GMREB
According to the Greater Montreal Real Estate Board (GMREB), condominium sales in the Montreal region fell nine per cent, year-over-year, in January. In fact, with the exception of plexes (two to five units), all property types registered decreased sales when compared with January 2014 statistics.

Condo sales, listings increase in January: OREB
When compared with statistics from January 2014, residential property sales in the Ottawa region increased 6.8 per cent in January, according to recent data released by the Ottawa Real Estate Board (OREB). This included 114 condominiums which sold for an average price of $250,406. On a month-to-month basis, new residential and condo property listings more than doubled those registered in December.

Weak January sales cause inventory spike: CREB
Across all housing types, January sales were 35 per cent lower than the 10 year average in Calgary, Alta., due to weakened economic conditions and a resulting lack of consumer confidence. At the same time, new listings rose 39 per cent, year-over-year, greatly impacting inventory levels.

New GTA condo sales up 51 per cent over 2013
According to Toronto condominium market analysts Urbanation Inc., a total of 21,605 new condominium apartments were sold in the Greater Toronto Area last year, making 2014 the third best year on record for new condo sales. The number represents a 51 per cent increase over 2013. Sales of existing condos grew 14 per cent, year-over-year, to a record 17,819 units.
