City Council approves Ottawa’s tallest building

Monday, March 2, 2015

A three-building condominium development, including Ottawa’s tallest building to date, was approved by Ottawa City Council last week. The proposed development, which includes an 18-storey tower, a 45-storey tower and a 55-storey tower, will be collectively known as “The Sky.”

The proposal includes:

  • 1,120 residential units;
  • Ground floor commercial space;
  • A large publicly-accessible plaza; and
  • 728 parking spots.

Located at 845 Carling Ave., the project will overlook Dow’s Lake and Ottawa’s Little Italy district. Developer Richcraft Homes (Richcraft) will work with Toronto architects Graziani and Corazza to design and build the development.

As part of the proposed plan, Richcraft is committed to providing $3.4-million to the City of Ottawa for community projects that will benefit residents.

A construction commencement date for The Sky has not yet been solidified, as Richcraft intends to wait for the region’s condo market to improve. As such, an estimated completion date is slated for 2020 or later.
