The University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) has officially opened its $35-million, 67,800 square foot Innovation Centre, offering space for Economics and Management faculty and staff, the Offices of the Registrar, a student commons and classrooms. The facility, which was completed in a mere 21 months, is a LEED silver targeted project built by PCL Constructors with the design help of Moriyama & Teshima Architects.

The three-storey, four-level development houses the campus’ signature centre for management education, the Institute for Management & Innovation (IMI), and the Li Koon Chun Finance Learning Centre.

“The Innovation Complex provides a magnificent space for our students to interact with, and learn, from local industry and government partners and to develop entrepreneurial and leadership skills,” says Meric Gertler, University of Toronto President. “The Institute for Management & Innovation, within the complex, is a perfect example of how we can fully leverage the relationship between City and university.”

Environmentally-friendly features include a green roof, stone wall cladding and vertical aluminum sun shading on the upper levels.

“The Innovation Complex is yet another extraordinary facility for our students, staff and faculty,” says Deep Saini, University of Toronto Vice-President. “Within its four walls, we will be educating the next generation of innovators with critical science and business expertise to help this city, region and nation compete in a challenging global economy.”

The official opening for the facility was held on November 5.
