After gaining international recognition for technical stage design at the Vancouver and London Olympic Games, Show Canada of Laval, Que., recently completed its largest contract: the stage design for the 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies in Russia.

Over the course of ten months, Show Canada worked to design and develop the elements that would be featured on the floor of the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi. The 13,000-square-metre surface included:

• 30-metre-long suspended islands
• 30-metre-high stage elevators and columns
• Sets and backdrops

Prior to being shipped to Sochi, all design elements were assembled and tested at the Dominion Bridge facility in Lachine, Que. More than 150 people played integral roles in bringing the project to fruition. In order to make the process as successful as possible, Show Canada also developed a division of their company in Russia. Moving forward, this space will be used for future international ventures.
