A new specialized care facility for individuals with dementia has opened in Bonavista, N.F. With an investment from the provincial government, the $2.6 million project offers 12 beds to local residents living with the brain disease. The development includes a residential-style kitchen, dining facilities, lounge, recreation areas and a garden.

“This new protective community care residence is more than a new facility. It is a home for those suffering from dementia, which will provide them with the care they need in a setting which is welcoming and supportive,” says Steve Kent, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Community Services. “We are investing in the families of this region who have loved ones affected by dementia. It is our responsibility to ensure that the care people need is available and they are treated with dignity and respect. The services provided here will enhance the continuum of specialized care available in the region.”

The development provides home-like environments that foster a normal living experience. It includes 24-hour supervision from specially-trained health care professionals.

Our government is committed to strengthening and enhancing long-term care and community support services for Bonavista and all regions of our province.”
