For the 16th consecutive year, Concordia University has maintained its standing as the most energy-efficient large university in Quebec.
The findings, compiled by Le ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur, de la Recherche, de la Science et de la Technologie, rank six of the province’s largest universities for 2011/12. Concordia consumes1.03 Gigajoules per square metre, 22 per cent less than the second and third place institutions, which both use 1.32 Gigajoules per square metre.
Concordia also ranked first in the energy cost per square metre category in 2011/12. It ranked second in the category the previous year but has held the number 1 spot nine times over the last decade.
Recently, the school’s sustainability efforts were also recognized by the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC). Concordia’s Research Centre for Structural and Functional Genomics received a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) gold rating in September.
