Chevalier Morales Architects and DMA Architects have been chosen to renovate and expand Montreal’s Pierrefonds Public Library.

The consortium was selected from four finalists that participated in a design competition. The jury chose the architects’ design for its boldness, originality and representation of the unique architectural identity being developed in Quebec.

“The call for applications has drawn interest for the competition that demonstrates that architects have at heart an urban development in harmony with the collectivity and the population’s needs,” says the province’s Minister of Culture and Communications, Maka Kotto. “It is with similar initiatives that Montreal’s status as a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) City of Design is maintained and rendered tangible.”

Designed to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) gold standards, the project includes a complete renovation of the existing building and the addition of an approximately 25,000-square-foot extension. The new facilities will feature the integration of new technologies and a radio-frequency identification system to facilitate document management and to offer self-service loans and returns.
