Wednesday, September 17, 2014

A new cancer centre slated to open at the McGill University Health Centre’s (MUHC) Glen site in June 2015 will be known as the Cedars Cancer Centre, MUHC announced in a Sept. 12 press release. The modern Montreal-based facility will allow medical professionals to provide patients with proper diagnoses and treatments through improved departments and services.

“This modern centre will allow our medical professionals to continue to be pioneers in cancer diagnosis and treatment while providing patients with the highest level of care and support,” says Dr. Armen Aprikian, chief of the MUHC’s Cancer Care Mission. “Patients and their families will benefit from having everything they require in one location, in a space that has been conceived and designed to optimize as much as possible the patient experience.”

The centre’s development has in part been made possible through $16 million in donations from the Rossy Family Foundation ($12 million), the Andrew Lutfy family ($3 million) and Andy Chelminski family ($1.6 million). These gifts were also announced Sept. 12, by the Cedars Cancer Foundation.

Funds will help provide:

  • Appropriate services and departments for each patient’s needs;
  • A dental care room;
  • A patient and visitor resource centre; and
  • Healing gardens.

“My family and I are proud to be part of the Cedars community and urge others to join us in supporting the work of this important foundation,” says Andy Chelminski, founder of the Bentley Group. “We all must do our part to give back, and in supporting Cedars we are making an impact in the lives of so many touched by cancer.”
