The IIDEXCanada Silver Innovation Award has been presented to Quadrangle Architects (Quadrangle) for the architectural firm’s 200-square-foot booth, known as #Started, at IIDEXCanada 2014, Canada’s National Design and Architecture Exposition & Conference. #Started was one of three booths created for StartupSpace, a special feature exhibition showcasing workplace concept spaces for startup tech culture, at the IIDEXCanada conference.
The #Started booth was a collaborative effort between Quadrangle, Herman Miller and designstor, a Toronto-based creative visualization agency. The IIDEXCanada Innovation Award, established to recognize innovative product design and booth creativity, was awarded to Quadrangle for the following booth innovations:
- Virtual and interactive play, allowing booth visitors to create their own unique StartupSpace with real-time 3D modeling and renderings through hand-held tablets and wide screen television projections;
- A custom-fabricated metal rod wireframe, bridging the gap between reality and Quadrangle’s virtual world; and
- All white, Public Office Landscape furniture, supplied by Herman Miller and designed for interaction.
“We are delighted to receive this recognition for our #Started installation,” says Caroline Robbie, Quadrangle Principal. “Working with creative media and tech startups is an important part of our work as a studio. Startups begin with an idea and take courage and determination to become a reality. Design follows the same arc as an idea becomes a sketch that becomes inspiration realized.”
The IIDEXCanada 2014 conference was held on Dec. 3 and 4 at Toronto’s Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
