The Ontario government will invest $10 million in the construction of a world-class greenhouse at the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre in Vineland, Ontario. The Vineland greenhouse development will be more than double the size of any other research greenhouse in Canada.
“The Ontario government is proud to support the new greenhouse facility at Vineland Research and Innovation Centre,” says Jeff Leal, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. “Investments in research and innovation are critical to growing our horticultural sector and will create jobs in the agri-food industry across Ontario.”
The 40,000-square-foot facility will focus on local flower and vegetable growing conditions and the development of innovative technologies to help increase food production, such as natural and automated pest-management systems.
Niagara-based TR Hinan Contractors Inc. is responsible for the construction of the facility, slated for completion in spring 2015.
