Ontario invests in hospital pharmacy revamp

Tuesday, September 16, 2014

The Ontario government is investing $7.7 million in the redevelopment and relocation of Lakeridge Health’s Oshawa hospital pharmacy. The project, which will enter construction in the summer or fall of 2015, is intended to provide patients with improved pharmaceutical services and medication delivery.

“We want people to have the best experience possible when they come to us for care. Our new regional pharmacy will help support high quality care,” says Kevin Empey, president and CEO of Lakeridge Health. “We are thrilled that the Government of Ontario is supporting this important improvement.”

Funding from the provincial government will help to:

  • Implement an automated medication distribution system;
  • Renovate 10,200 square feet of existing space on the fourth floor of the G-Wing; and
  • Provide a more modern and spacious pharmacy to meet the needs of current and prospective patients.

The hospital, which features a leading regional cancer centre and delivers services including diabetes management and dialysis, currently provides care for more than 1,600 people every day.
