The 30-storey office tower located at 777 Bay St. in Toronto has achieved LEED Gold certification through the Canada Green Building Council’s (CaGBC) Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance program. In a press release, Canderel says it began working towards a long-term vision for the building’s sustainability in 2006.
Some of the building’s sustainable features include:
- High-efficiency boilers;
- High-efficiency lighting retrofits;
- Waterless urinals;
- Low-flow toilets;
- Auto-sensor faucets; and
- An office recycling program, including electronic and organic waste.
Investments in building sustainability have enabled Canderel to reduce 777 Bay St.’s annual energy use by more than 10 per cent and annual greenhouse gas emissions by more than 30 per cent. By investing in water-saving technologies, building operators have also cut annual water usage by seven per cent.
“Achieving LEED EB: O&M Gold certification is a testament to the many years of hard work that our property management team has invested into the greening of the property, the support of our partner, OPTrust [OPSEU Pension Trust], and the participation of our tenants,” says Jonathan Wener, chairman and CEO of the Canderel Group of Companies.
