Toronto-based Bortolotto Architect beat out six other architectural firms to renovate and redesign the Ontario College of Art and Design’s (OCAD) 16,297-square-foot facility, located at 115 McCaul St. Scheduled for completion in September 2015, the OCAD renovation has a budget of $4.5 million.
Currently, the building is being used as the university’s corporate head office. Once renovations are complete, however, the building will be transformed into a flexible, student-focused facility. Changes to the building will include studios, interactive meeting and event spaces and an environmentally-friendly retrofit of the mechanical and electrical systems.
The building’s exterior will also be renovated through a redesign of both the McCaul and Dundas street-facing façades. The proposed changes are intended to help reinforce OCAD’s position as Canada’s “university of imagination,” integrating the university’s brand and creative identity.
“We are very excited and grateful to have been selected to design this high profile project for such a creative and forward thinking University,” Tania Bortolotto, president of Bortolotto Design Architect Inc., said in a news release.
