Cushman & Wakefield has released its Workplace Transformation Survey, which highlights workplace changes around the world. According to global findings, companies already undergoing modifications viewed workplace design changes as highly valuable when compared with other workplace transformation strategies.
Open concept working environments ranked highest on a list of considerations, followed by flexible layouts, furniture solutions and increased meeting rooms or collaboration spaces.
Other favourable design changes included:
- Increased social and relaxation spaces
- Unassigned seating (employees with no fixed working station)
- Increased use of natural lighting
- Quiet zones and rooms
- Sustainability accreditation (e.g. LEED)
Of the respondents surveyed from North American companies and organizations already undergoing workplace changes, 80 per cent rated the implementation of these changes to be either highly effective or effective. Employee satisfaction was cited as the best indicator of initiative success.

It is nice to see validation in North America for workplace transformation. Unassigned seating ranking as a key mentionable is a surprise but welcomed! It would have been nice to see a picture associated with this discussion depicting space less traditional and with some natural light.
