The new Grand Winnipeg Airport Hotel is focusing on technologically advanced amenities to set it apart from the competition. Since opening on Jan. 9, the $23-million development is the first in its market to offer an iPad in every room.
The six-storey building features 101 guestrooms and suites, a restaurant and state-of-the-art fitness facility. Rooms and suites feature LED smart televisions, Netflix on-demand, and complimentary Wi-Fi.
Additional tech-friendly conveniences include an e-concierge for guests to check airport departures/arrivals and print boarding passes, and a Starbuck’s auto-barista machine for customizable coffees and hot beverages
In an effort to reduce their carbon footprint, owner Lakeview Hotels & Resorts installed heat recovery ventilation systems throughout the hotel. They operate using sensors that turn off lights and thermostats when rooms are unoccupied. On the building’s west side, a curtain wall absorbs solar energy.
The building is steps from the Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport, shopping malls and art galleries in downtown Winnipeg.
