Canadian Apartment Properties REIT (CAPREIT) has announced the appointment of James Lawrence as Chief Operating Officer, effective September 1, 2026. The move marks a significant leadership shift for the REIT as it continues to navigate tightening rental markets, elevated construction costs, and sustained demand for professionally managed multi‑residential housing across Canada.

Lawrence, who previously served as CAPREIT’s Senior Vice President of Operations, brings more than two decades of experience in property management, asset optimization, and operational strategy. His promotion signals CAPREIT’s intention to strengthen operational efficiency and portfolio performance at a time when the REIT is managing both aging stock and a growing pipeline of intensification projects.

In his new role, Lawrence will oversee national operations, resident service delivery, maintenance programs, and digital transformation initiatives aimed at improving building performance and tenant experience. CAPREIT has emphasized that Lawrence’s track record in modernizing operational systems and driving cost efficiencies positions him well to support the REIT’s long‑term growth strategy.

The appointment follows a period of executive transition at CAPREIT, including the retirement of long‑time CEO Mark Kenney earlier this year and the subsequent appointment of Brad Cutsey as his successor.
