Armstrong Commercial Flooring was used in eight of 14 projects recognized at the 2013 Starnet Design Awards. Of the award-winning projects that used Armstrong flooring, five were “golden.” One silver and two bronze awards were given to the other three projects.
Established in 2000 to celebrate the creativity and talent of professionals in commercial flooring and interiors, design awards are given to commercial interior spaces that showcase creativity, uniqueness and quality, while maintaining practicality in the implementation of design. Judges look at the creative use of flooring, overall design concepts and quality of solutions.
With 114 submissions, the 2013 award presentation included eight categories – Health Care, Education, Retail, Corporate, Hospitality, Environmental Achievement, Unique Installation, People’s Choice – with one grand prize winner. This year, Starnet Worldwide Commercial Flooring members, vendors and members of the press were able to vote for the winner of the People’s Choice award.
Bostik Inc.’s facility in Wauwatosa, Wis., was the gold winner in the People’s Choice award category. Designed by Uihlein-Wilson Architects, inspiration for the flooring came from the sweeping elliptical shape of the Bostik logo, resulting in large intersecting ellipses and arcs that help make the long corridors feel more open and inviting. The project also won silver and bronze awards in the Corporate and Unique Installation categories, respectively.
Other award-winning projects that featured Armstrong flooring included the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Kaiser Bellflower Pediatrics, Puma North America, Berkshire School: Bellas/Dixon Math & Science Center, Memorial Care, Swinomish Lodge and the Flint Hills Discovery Center.
