Erin Mills Town Centre is getting a $100-million face-lift.

Redesign plans for the Mississauga, Ont., shopping centre include a large, raised glass sphere jutting out from the roof. Sitting below the glass sphere, in the mall’s central court, will be an infinity-pool surrounded by communal seating. Shopping centre officials want the area to be a meeting place for people as well as a space for public events.

Existing skylights will also be replaced with new clerestory windows, bringing more natural light into the mall’s common areas, and the existing food court will be expanded, with the addition of two storeys of food vendors and an outdoor patio on the upper level.

Construction is set to begin this summer. The mall will remain open throughout the entire renovation, which is scheduled to end in the summer of 2015.

This is the first major renovation to the shopping centre since it opened in 1989.
