The Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan recently announced a combined investment of $92 million to help provide affordable housing for individuals and families in need. The funding, delivered through an extension of the Investment in Affordable Housing (IAH) agreement, is provided, in part, through the federal government’s Economic Action Plan 2013. Funding will be invested over the duration of five years.

“We are pleased to continue to work with the Government of Canada to proactively ensure affordable housing is available in communities across Saskatchewan,” says Donna Harpauer, Minister of Social Services and Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation. “By signing this Agreement, we expect to accomplish a number of goals that complement our Growth Plan and Housing Strategy. This includes working with other housing sector partners to ensure that current and future housing needs of Saskatchewan families are met.”

The IAH agreement, which originally involved a timeline of 2011 to 2014, has now been extended to 2019. Since its inception, the IAH agreement has helped nearly 1,700 families in Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan government has invested $256 million to build over 4,500 affordable housing units since 2011.
