Thanks to an investment of $400,000 from the Governments of Canada and British Columbia, six low to moderate income families will have access to affordable rental housing in the form of a townhouse complex. The complex, which will be located at 215 25th Avenue South in Creston, B.C., will contain two and three-bedroom layouts.
The project, slated for completion in late 2015, will be owned and operated by the Creston Valley Community Housing Society. In addition to the combined investment from the provincial and federal governments, provided through the extended Investment in Affordable Housing (IAH) agreement, the Columbia Basin Trust contributed $400,000 to the project.
“This initiative is a key part of improving the well-being of residents in the Columbia Basin,” says Heather More, President of the Creston Valley Family Housing Society. “By working alongside the Creston Valley Community Housing Society, in partnership with the federal and provincial governments, we are able to support the community’s efforts to improve housing options for local residents.”
The complex will be located close to public transit, grocery stores, commercial services, a secondary school and green spaces.
This year, over 98,000 B.C. households will benefit from provincial social housing programs and services.
