A new, 72-unit rental housing development in Lévis, Q.C., has officially opened, offering low to moderate-income families and individuals housing options adapted to their needs. The $10.8 million project, known as Monseigneur-Bourget, is comprised of four buildings.

Funding for the development was provided by:

• The Governments of Canada and Quebec, through the Agreement for Investment in Affordable Housing 2011-2014 (IAH) and the AccèsLogis Québec program of the Société d’habitation du Québec (SHQ), in the amount of $4.6 million;
• Various community partners ($1.9 million);
• The City of Lévis ($1.7 million);
• The Bureau de l’efficacité et de l’innovation énergétiques of the Ministère de l’Énergie et des Ressources naturelles ($166,000); and
• Bell ($16,000).

“Government investments combined with the work and commitment of the Office municipal d’habitation de Lévis allowed this significant project for the people of Lévis to become a reality,” says Dominique Vien, Minister of Tourism and Minister responsible for the Chaudière-Appalaches region. “Thanks to this valuable collaboration, 72 households now have access to a new, safe and affordable place to live. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to the development of this great local initiative.”

In addition to these investments, the SHQ and City of Lévis have contributed nearly $620,000, over the course of five years, to allow 36 Monseigneur-Bourget tenants to benefit from the Rent Supplement Program. This program ensures that qualifying households pay the equivalent of 25 per cent of their income on rent.
