Seniors in Dauphin, M.B. will now have the option to rent an affordable apartment in the new Mountain View Villa development, which officially opened on November 14. The building, located on a three-acre site on Whitmore Avenue East in Dauphin, consists of 29 two-bedroom and 11 one-bedroom apartment homes.
The three-storey, 41,400 square foot development consists of 40 wheelchair accessible units with private patios or balconies and in-suite laundry facilities. Designed to meet Power Smart standards, the project was made possible thanks to investments from the Governments of Canada and Manitoba, through the Investment in Affordable Housing 2011-2014 (IAH).
“I am delighted to see that construction is complete on this project,” says Robert Sopuck, Member of Parliament for Dauphin–Swan River–Marquette. “The opening of Mountain View Villa brings more affordable housing to Dauphin, allowing independent seniors to remain in the community, close to family and friends. This project is a testament of how we can find solutions to housing when we work together to achieve the same goal, providing more affordable housing to this community.”
From April 2011 to September 2014, the IAH has helped over 2,153 Manitoban households achieve affordability.
