Vancouver City Council recently approved a new 620-unit development in North False Creek. The project’s approval allows for the development of a new Dragon Boat facility at Creekside Community Centre and a future affordable housing site.

“This project will be a strong addition to one of the fastest-growing neighbourhoods in Vancouver, and it’s great to see a new Dragon Boat facility and a new affordable housing site secured in conjunction with its approval,” said Mayor Gregor Robertson in a statement.

Construction of the new Dragon Boat facility and affordable housing site are being made possible through a community amenity contribution to the False Creek development of $4.2 million. The plans for the project, which will include two residential towers and two floors of commercial development, were developed by James K. M. Cheng Architects, but no definitive timeline for completion has been released.

The approval process for the project ensures that 10 per cent of employment generated through construction of the buildings is secured from inner-city neighbourhoods. In addition, 10 per cent of construction materials must be purchased locally.
