Construction is underway on two new development sites in the Township of Langley, BC, marking a significant step forward in the province’s efforts to expand housing for middle-income residents.
The two sites—located at 20230 72B Avenue beside the Willoughby Firehall, and at 272nd Street and Fraser Highway in Aldergrove—are among the first to break ground through the BC Builds initiative. This provincial program aims to accelerate housing delivery by connecting builders with ready-to-develop land and streamlining municipal permitting processes.
“These homes are for the people who keep our communities running—teachers, tradespeople, health-care workers and others—so they can live close to their jobs, families and support networks,” said Christine Boyle, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs. “We’re working with municipalities to build the homes people need, and we’re doing it faster than ever.”
The Township of Langley is contributing the land for both projects at no cost and has partnered with the Province, BC Housing, and the newly formed Township of Langley Housing Trust Society to bring the developments to life.
“Residents have made it clear—housing that meets the needs of working families, seniors and individuals is a top priority,” said Mayor Eric Woodward. “These projects reflect our commitment to affordability and livability, and show how quickly progress can happen when the right partnerships are in place.”
Project Details
The Aldergroves site is scheduled for completion in fall 2027, bringing 128 rental homes to market. The building will feature a rooftop gathering space and ground-floor commercial units, including a new Aldergrove library and spaces for non-profit organizations—creating a vibrant hub for community connection and support.
The Willoughby site is expected to open in summer 2027, delivering 118 rental homes with a rooftop amenity space. Both buildings will be located near transit, making it easier for residents to commute to work, school, or appointments.
Seventy per cent of the homes will be offered at market rates, while the remaining 30 percent will be priced at 20 percent below market. All residents will be income-tested at move-in, ensuring rental rates align with local affordability levels.
