The Living Gospel Church (LGC) Family Place, a new affordable housing development in Winnipeg, has opened its doors.

Located at 525–527 William Ave., the apartment building contains 28 units for immigrant families and persons with disabilities living in the city. The development, which received approximately $12.8 million from the federal government and province, was funded primarily through Canada’s Economic Action Plan and the Canada-Manitoba Affordable Housing Project.

“Every new family coming to Manitoba should have opportunities to put down roots and build their lives here,” says Minister of Manitoba Housing and Community Development Peter Bjornson. “I am pleased we supported an affordable housing project that is helping immigrants with limited income obtain safe, decent, affordable housing.”

On top of the units, the seven-storey LGC Place includes a multi-purpose space, rooftop patio, storage lockers and laundry facilities. Living Gospel Church Holdings Inc., as well as organizations including Welcome Place and the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba, all have space in the building’s main level.

“Along with our partners, our government’s investments in affordable housing here in Winnipeg will improve the quality of life for those who need it most, in doing so, contribute to the economic and social well-being of the entire community,” says Lawrence Toet, MP for Elmwood-Transcona.
