Grid Control Centre to remain in Ontario
The Ontario government has accepted the advice of the Premier’s Advisory Council on Government Assets and will continue to operate a state-of-the-art Grid Control Centre in Barrie, Ont. The facility, which operates 97 per cent of the transmission grid in Ontario and the power distribution assets of Hydro One, is part of a transmission system that includes enough transmission and distribution lines to circle the earth three times.

Ontario landlords face fire code violation charges
Earlier this month, the Ontario Court of Justice found two St. Catharines landlords guilty of violating fire code at their apartment building on Maple Street. In reaction to the incident, the city of St. Catharines is warning other landlords to ensure their buildings comply with the Ontario Fire Code or they too will face hefty fines.

The Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) has appointed a new president to its team. Toon Dreessen, a partner at Ottawa-based Farrow-Dreessen Architects Inc., brings experience in commercial, retail, office, industrial and institutional architecture to the role.

Aerospace manufacturer to build in Cambridge
A $54.2-million manufacturing facility, specializing in the creation of aerospace products, will be built in Cambridge, Ont. The 108,000-square-foot facility will be owned and operated by Héroux-Devtek Inc., a Canadian company that designs and develops landing gear for the aerospace market.

Toronto projects recognized at masonry awards
Several Toronto buildings received top honours at the recent Ontario Masonry Design Awards gala, held at the Allstream Centre in Toronto, Ontario. The awards, which covered projects completed between the summers of 2009 and 2013, recognized the substantial, imaginative and creative use of masonry design in Ontario buildings and projects.
