AWMAC BC celebrates woodworking excellence

The British Columbia chapter of the Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers Association of Canada (AWMAC BC) celebrated achievements in the design, manufacture and supply of architectural woodwork at its 26th annual Awards of Excellence.

This year 42 projects were nominated and more than 300 guests attended the awards gala held at the Vancouver Convention Centre on Sept. 15. Projects are divided into commercial – large, commercial – small, and private residence categories with gold and silver rankings. The top four winners were:

• The Ed Fielder Award for Overall Excellence of quality and Service on a Large project (over $500,000) went to Wanes Custom Woodworks won for their ACL Services project. (Photo)
• The Ed Russell Award for Overall Excellnece in quality and Service on a Small project (under $500,000) went to Island Precision Manufacturing Ltd. for their Urban Smiles Dental Office project.
• Award for Overall Excellence in quality and Service went to Beckville Woodcrafts Ltd. for a residential project.
• The Jack Sigurdson Award For Excellence in Design in Architectural Woodwork went to Dialog for their UBC Student Union Building project. The architectural woodworker was JSV Architectural Veneering and Millwork Inc.

Mark Stone of E Roko Distributors was honoured with the Above and Beyond Award, given to the individual who has done the most during the year 2015/16 to benefit the association.

The winner of the AWMAC BC Provincial Apprenticeship Contest went to Kaitlin Cohan of Top 40 Woodworks.
