Windcorp announces mixed-use plan for Ajax

Wednesday, July 17, 2013

Ajax council and Windcorp Developments Ltd. have released plans for a new urban-inspired development. Dubbed Grand Harwood Place, the project is part of the revitalization of downtown Ajax. Upon completion, it will be the first opportunity for new condo ownership in the town in more than 20 years.

“Grand Harwood Place will act as a catalyst for change, restoring economic growth and establishing a welcoming and vibrant environment once again in the centre of downtown Ajax,” says Mayor Steve Parish.

Located at Harwood Avenue South and Kings Crescent, the $118.7 million development will sit on the existing site of Ajax Plaza. It will consist of two mixed-used, 10-storey buildings. The first two floors or each building will be devoted to retail and office space. The remaining floors will be comprised of residential condominium units.

Designed by Zeidler Partnership Architects, the development will include a number of green initiatives, including environmentally conscious roofing systems, improvements to pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, and measures to reduce stormwater runoff.

Project details are still in the development stage as the agreement is subject to certain conditions, including site plan approval and residential sales. If the conditions are met, construction could begin within the next two years.
