B.C’s top construction contractors were honoured at the 2017 Vancouver Regional Construction Association’s (VRCA) 29th annual Awards of Excellence gala on October 25.

This year’s competition attracted more than 95 entrants and put the spotlight on 50 projects representing approximately $1.1 billion in construction value.

Ledcor Construction took home the top prize for the Tsawwassen Mills Mall in the category of General Contractor over $45 million. The massive and challenging project also earned APEX Granite & Tile and Houle Electric silver Awards of Excellence.

The HUB located at King George Station Phase A: Coast Capital Savings and Langara Science & Technology building were also multiple winners in a number of categories this year.

The VRCA Gold Awards went to 15 winners for their use of special techniques and procedures, new materials and additional artistic or innovative features on their projects. There were nine outstanding achievement awards with Axiom Builders honoured with Member of the Year. A Heritage Award was given to the team behind the restoration work on the Christ Church Cathedral Restoration & Renewal project.

“VRCA’s Awards of Excellence showcase the best of the best,” said Fiona Famulak, president of VRCA. “B.C.’s construction industry is the most progressive in the country and the awards allow us to recognize the collaboration, innovation and professionalism that our members bring to their projects – the complex, state-of-the-art infrastructure that we use every day.”
