KPMB Architects from Toronto is one of five firms that have been shortlisted for designing the new Vancouver Art Gallery.

A total of 75 firms from 16 countries made submissions. The other finalists are: Diller Scofidio and Renfro (New York), Herzog & de Meuron (Basel), SANAA (Tokyo), and Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects (New York).

The principal goals and objectives of the building project are to create an architecturally significant museum that places prominence on artists and art, and that celebrates the rich cultural context of Vancouver.

The art gallery, to be located at a city-owned downtown site at West Georgia and Cambie Streets, will conduct in-person interviews with each of the finalists in the coming months. The winner is expected to be announced in spring 2014.
