Wednesday, October 25, 2017

PCL Construction has received two top awards from the Canada BIM Council (CanBIM) for Rocky Ridge Recreation Facility in Calgary. The annual CanBIM Awards recognize companies and/or individuals that demonstrate leadership and innovation through the implementation of technology.

PCL took home both the General Contractor Award and the Best In BIM Award. According to CanBIM, when designers for the Rocky Ridge Recreation Facility pushed the boundaries on design, it resulted in a stunning example of architecture. The challenge for PCL was to take this complex building form and physically build it. With the use of a fully integrated BIM model the team has realized success. The facility is targeted to open to the public on January 15, 2018

The International Award, sponsored by Turner Fleischer Architects, went to Groupe Canam for the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. The Owners Award, sponsored by B+H Architects, was presented to York University for the York University New Student Centre.

The Design & Engineering Award went to Provencher Roy, for the Tour de Montreal and the Technology Award, sponsored by IBI Group, went to Assemble Systems. The Academic Award, sponsored by Global eTraining, went to Dr. Mohammed Delavar for BIM Assisted Design Process Automation for Pre-Engineered Buildings.

Special recognition was given to Ellen Bensky, partner and CEO of Turner Fleischer Architects, for this year’s Professional Achievement Award, which honours a CanBIM member who has made a significant and meaningful contribution to the advancement of BIM and virtual design and construction in Canada.
