Naikoon Contracting has unveiled its latest residential project, Midori Uchi in North Vancouver. Meaning “green home” in Japanese, Midori Uchi is among the first in the Lower Mainland to be net-zero and has achieved three different levels of green certification.

Its extensive list of green features and sustainable systems helped the project to achieve LEED Canada for Homes Platinum, R-2000 energy efficiency certification and Built Green Canada Platinum.

“With Midori Uchi we took current residential standards to the next level, using some of the most advanced sustainable systems and innovative, eco-friendly building materials available,” says Naikoon president Joe Geluch.

Some of the green features include reclaimed timbers, solar photovoltaic, grey water re-use, structural insulating panel roof system, and the only residential rammed earth wall in Metro Vancouver. A total of 95 per cent of building materials were recycled.

The project took 18 months to complete. It currently serves as the company’s model home to showcase industry and the public what is possible in a green home.
