Hotel design award winners announced

Eight design firms will be recognized at this year’s Air Canada enRoute Hotel Design Awards ceremony for their contribution to the hospitality industry. Held biannually, the awards program celebrates the best Canadian-designed hotels around the world.

This year, an international panel of judges awarded prizes in 11 categories. The winners are:

  • Best Overall Interior Design: Four Seasons Hotel Toronto, Yabu Pushelberg
  • Best Overall Architecture: Cabot Links Lodge, Inverness, N.S., Fowler Bauld & Mitchell
  • Best Lobby – Less than 150 Rooms: The James Hotel, Saskatoon, Shugarman Architecture & Design Inc.
  • Best Lobby – More than 150 Rooms: Rosewood Hotel Georgia, Vancouver, Munge Leung
  • Best Standard Room – Less than 150 Rooms: Les Dortoirs de la Gare, Hôtel La Ferme, Baie-Saint-Paul, Que., LemayMichaud Architecture Design
  • Best Standard Room – More than 150 Rooms: Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto, B+H CHIL Design
  • Best Suite – Less than 150 Rooms: Suite La Bergerie, Hôtel La Ferme, Baie-Saint-Paul, Que., LemayMichaud Architecture Design
  • Best Suite – More than 150 Rooms: Shangri-La Suite, Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto, B+H CHIL Design
  • Best Spa or Pool – Less than 150 Rooms: Hôtel La Ferme, Baie-Saint-Paul, Que., LemayMichaud Architecture Design
  • Best Spa or Pool – More than 150 Rooms: Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto, B+H CHIL Design
  • Best Restaurant or Bar: Momofuku, Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto, The Design Agency and James K.M. Cheng Architects Inc.

Air Canada’s enRoute magazine, in partnership with the Interior Designers of Canada (IDC), Architecture Canada/Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC)  and IIDEX Canada, invited Canadian architects and interior designers to submit new and extensively renovated hotels completed between Jan. 1, 2011, and Dec. 31, 2012.

The awards ceremony will take place Sept. 27, at the IIDEX design show and conference held in Toronto.
