Thursday, August 6, 2015

The 2015 ENERGY STAR Advocate of the Year award was presented to the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care, for its work in facilitating the adoption of ENERGY STAR products within Canada’s health services sector.

“Energy management is just one of many priorities we have adopted in our work as a national voice and catalyst for environmental change within the sector and we are very proud to say that our efforts have helped the ENERGY STAR brand become far more prevalent in health care across Canada,” said Linda Varangu, Coalition executive director.

The Coalitions’ work with ENERGY STAR products has helped facility and energy managers to reduce operating costs in the health care industry, thereby improving patient environments.

During 2014, a team of HealthCare Energy Leaders (HELO) audited and assessed organizations to help reduce their electrical consumption and divert scarce budget dollars back into the delivery of patient services and care.

The 15-year-old Coalition has been working at the local, provincial and national levels to green the health care landscape across Canada. The initiative counts energy conservation awareness among its many goals.
