Great Gulf has unveiled a new set of units for its Monde Condominium development on Toronto’s waterfront.

The “Boardwalk Suites,” designed by world-renowned architect, Moshe Safdie, are inspired by the condo’s surrounding environment – nature, the lake and the city. Wide and shallow to optimize space and natural light, the suites offer views of Lake Ontario and the city’s skyline.

“Within walking distance of downtown, Monde is uniquely situated in an urban setting that has a direct connection with nature by being steps away from Lake Ontario and all that the new blue edge offers,” says Alan Vihant, senior vice-president for highrise at Great Gulf. “Residents can enjoy resort-inspired amenities at the condo, indulge in the neighbourhood restaurants and cafés or take a relaxing stroll on the Lakeshore boardwalk.”

Located north of Queens Quay at 12 Bonnycastle St., Monde Condominiums is the first private sector development in the “new blue edge” community of East Bayfront. The Waterfront Toronto mixed-use redevelopment includes parks, public spaces, sustainable development and telecommunications infrastructure.

Safdie worked with local architectural firm, Quadrangle Architects Ltd., to create the design for Monde Condominiums, formerly known as the Parkside development. His vision for the 40-storey tower was to create an architectural frame through which nature can be viewed and experienced in the home, blurring the lines between indoor-outdoor life.

Other design team members include Cecconi Simone Inc. and Toronto-based landscape architect, Janet Rosenberg & Studio.

This is the first residential project Safdie has done in Canada since the iconic Habitat ’67 in Montreal.
