Global industrial market remains uneven: report

Monday, July 29, 2013

As some countries move forward from the global economic downtown, industrial warehouse and logistics markets around the world are showing staggered performance results.

According to Colliers International’s Global Industrial Midyear 2013 Report, there is a fluctuation in market performance as some countries stabilize and others remain on unsteady economic ground. Overall, vacancy rates across the continents declined for an eighth consecutive quarter, reaching 8.2 per cent.

In North America, demand for industrial warehouse space and modern distribution centres remained strong despite slow job growth in the U.S.

Though a number of Asian economies are seeing slow GDP growth, there has been an increase in interest for industrial logistics real estate. Private expenditure in many Southeast Asian countries is keeping industrial real estate in demand. Beijing is seeing exceptional rental growth as demand for quality and modern facilities is increasing, while most high-quality warehouse buildings in Hong Kong are fully occupied.

The European logistics market continues to see an unsteady recovery, due to a lack of momentum in retail trade and industrial production growth. Though industrial production saw an increase in March, overall it has been in decline in 2013.
