Designers chosen for Calgary’s Central Library

Friday, November 8, 2013

The architectural team to design Calgary’s new Central Library in East Village has been announced. From a shortlist of four firms, the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation’s selection committee has picked the team of Snøhetta, an international architecture firm with offices in Oslo and New York, and Dialog, a Canadian firm with locations in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Toronto. MHPM will act as project managers, with Stuart Olson Dominion Construction as construction manager.

The $150-million library will be an iconic landmark in revitalizing the East Village neighbourhood and will involve a variety of technical complexities. Construction of the encapsulation structure is scheduled to start in April 2014, with construction of the main building starting in September 2015. It is slated to be open to the public in 2018.
