Cube Lofts has received a Toronto Urban Design Award (TUDA) of Excellence in the Private Buildings in Context – Mid-Rise category.
Located on College Street in Toronto’s Little Italy, Neilas Inc.’s Cube is a six-storey, mixed-use development, with retail at street level and 21 condominium units above the shops. The project team includes Quadrangle Architects Ltd., Raw Design and Seven Haus Design.
Cube was recognized for its urban design excellence, with the jury paying kudos to the “clear delineation of single and double height units, (which) offer variety to the streetscape and identity for the occupant.” The building also received praise for its stackable vehicle parking, which was employed to reduce space requirements below ground.
Triangle West Developments Inc.’s Art Condominiums received an Award of Merit in the same category. Designed by Oleson Worland Architects and Hariri Pontarini Architects, the 11-storey, mixed-use development at 8 Dovercourt Rd. features 150 suites atop artists’ studios and galleries, which are at grade.
