CaGBC to re-establish the B.C. Chapter

Tuesday, May 5, 2015

Due to the rapid growth of green building in British Columbia, the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) and Cascadia Green Building Council have announced that the CaGBC Chapter in British Columbia will be integrated into the national CaGBC organization.

This change is part of a new nationwide model where CaGBC Chapters in Canada are being integrated into one organization to better serve members and stakeholders, and advance green building in the different regions across the country. This change is effective on June 1, 2015.

The Cascadia Green Building Council, which currently runs the B.C. chapter, will retain their name and continue to produce educational events and local programs to promote their mission toward a “built environment that is socially just, culturally rich and ecologically restorative.”

Cascadia is run by the International Living Future Institute, which also developed the Living Building Challenge™. The Living Building Challenge collaborative groups will continue to promote and support Living Future programs and initiatives, and the Cascadia Congress will continue to provide advocacy and policy leadership in the Province.

This new CaGBC-run B.C. Chapter will provide support and advocacy for LEED® and other CaGBC green building programs in the Province. Chapter members will have access to qualified technical staff, enhanced local educational programming and networking opportunities, community events and volunteer opportunities.

Both organizations will continue to support and promote programs from across the region, and will launch a series of joint educational programs in B.C. over the coming months.
