Three projects were honoured with a 2013 BC Steel Design Award of Excellence. The award ceremony was held at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in downtown Vancouver May 23.
Presented by the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC), the awards recognize exceptional talent and ingenuity in steel design, and the innovative use of steel in addressing a variety of construction challenges.
Solid Rock Steel Fabricating Co. was a double winner at this year’s event, taking home top honours in the Architectural and Sustainability categories for the Capilano Cilffwalk. Unique survey/construction techniques and cutting edge technology were required for this one of a kind project.
The Engineering Award went to Rapid-Span Structures and Tenca Steel Detailing Inc. for the Deh Cho Bridge. Built over the Mackenzie River, it is the largest bridge project undertaken in the Northwest Territories.
The BC Place roof revitalization project was the winner of the H.A. Krentz Award, which recognizes innovation. Steel fabricators/detailers/erectors were Canam Group and Canron Western Constructors.
