BC Place turns 30

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

Vancouver’s BC Place is celebrating its 30th birthday. Since 1983, the stadium has hosted more than 30 million guests at thousands of events, including opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and Expo ’86.

To mark the occasion, Vancouver’s skyline will feature 30 candles for the 30 days of celebration.

BC Place is an architectural signature for the province and the largest sports, exhibition and entertainment venue of its kind in British Columbia. In 2011, the iconic white dome was replaced with the world’s largest cable-supported retractable roof. The new stadium roof façade, known as the Northern Lights Display, utilizes ETFE panels and energy-efficient LEDs to light the stadium at night, allowing BC Place to become a glowing landmark that can be seen far and wide after dark.
