The winners of the 2013 Alberta Steel Design Awards of Excellence have been announced.
The awards drew 28 submissions representing a diverse range of innovative steel design and construction projects, from iconic bridges and buildings to LRT stations and environmental reclamation facilities. The winning designs represent state-of-the-art architecture, engineering, fabrication and sustainability in the steel construction industry.
The winners are:
- Architectural Award: Telus Spark, The New Science Centre
- Building Communities Award: Edmonton Federal Building, Parkade and Centennial Plaza
- Engineering Award and Steel Edge Award: Peace Bridge
- Industrial Award: Suncor Tro Water Barges
- Sustainability Award: Pembina Hall Student Residences at the University of Manitoba
The Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) award celebration is held every other year to promote the structural steel industry within Alberta and across Canada. The awards recognize exceptional talent and ingenuity in steel design and the innovative use of steel in addressing a variety of construction challenges. This year’s outstanding winners embody the theme of the 2013 event, “Leading and Shaping our Future.”
