New industrial rebates for energy savings in Alberta

Friday, February 23, 2018

Alberta has added several industrial-specific rebates to its Energy Efficiency Alberta’s Business Non-Profit and Institutional (BNI) Energy Savings Program.

The BNI program is already helping organizations reduce their energy use and greenhouse gas emissions by replacing outdated and inefficient equipment with new energy-efficient technologies. Most industrial facilities that are not large final emitters qualify for the program.

Industrial businesses, including small-to-medium sized oil and gas industries, are now eligible to receive rebates on products such as:

  • Pump-off controllers for pump jacks;
  • Variable frequency drives for combustion air fans;
  • Steam trap survey and retrofit;
  • Retro-commissioning for economizers and fresh air dampers;
  • Pneumatic to electric instrument conversion;
  • Compressed air leak detection and repair;
  • No-loss drains (compressed air);
  • Chiller tune-up;
  • Loading dock door and pit seals;
  • Valve repair – chilled water / hot water;
  • Process exhaust filtration.

Organizations purchase products and once installed submit product information and proof of purchase online to receive the rebate. Many contractors do this on behalf of their customers when they complete the installation.

As of December 2017, more than 1,200 organizations have participated in the BNI program, receiving a total of $3.5 million in rebates or an average of $2,600 per project.
