The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies of B.C. (ACEC-BC) is the recipient of this year’s Association Cornerstone of Excellence (ACE) Award for Government Affairs. The association won for its work on effecting significant amendments to the province’s Limitation Act.

ACEC-BC initiated the lobbying efforts to amend the Limitation Act in 2005, to address an onerous provision of the then existing legislation that resulted in engineers and other professionals being liable for claims up to 30 years after their professional services had been provided. As a result of the actions taken by ACEC-BC, the Limitation Act has now established, in relation to most claims, a basic limitation period of two years from the date of discovery of a claim, and an ultimate limitation period of 15 years after the event giving rise to a claim.

Presented annually by the British Columbia chapter of the Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE), the ACE Awards showcase outstanding achievement in the association sector. Recipients in the Government Affairs category are recognized for undertaking a key initiative on a single government affairs issue where highly focused activities have resulted in a positive outcome.
