Tuesday, May 12, 2015

Landscape architect Jane Durante, a founding member of the firm of Durante Kreuk in British Columbia, has been recognized with the Schwabenbauer Award by the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA).

The Schwabenbauer Award is awarded to a CSLA member in recognition of their unselfish and devoted service to the organization at the national level over a period of not less than five years.

Durante has been the Secretary Treasurer of the CSLA College of Fellows for the last 10 years. In that role, she manages the business affairs of the College, (a standing committee of the CSLA). Among her many activities, she oversees the annual nominations of new fellow-elects to the College of Fellows including: organizing and ensuring the time-sensitive jury adjudication of the nominees, informing the College Executive Board of the results and the fellow-elects of their nominations, preparing the induction ceremony and ultimately assisting in presenting the awards. Jane’s many contributions to the College over the last decade have helped ensure the reputation and standing of the College of Fellows within (and outside) the CSLA.

The CSLA Recognition Awards honour the work and commitment of Canadians to the profession of landscape architecture. The two other winners are professor John Danahy at the University of Toronto, who earned the Teaching Award, which recognizes an individual who has made a substantial and significant contribution to landscape architecture education. The Emerging Professional Award went to Sarah Lacombe, a graduate in Landscape Architecture at the University of Montréal. She has been working for two years with Groupe Rousseau Lefebvre.

The Recognition Awards will be given at the CSLA Gala to be held on Saturday, May 23rd, 2015, at the Hilton Mexico City Reforma, during the CSLA 2015 Congress in Mexico.
