Fluor, in join venture with JGC Corporation, has been selected to deliver engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction and commissioning for Phase 2 of LNG Canada’s liquified natural gas (LNG) export facility in Kitimat.

The Phase 2 award builds on the joint venture’s successful delivery of Phase 1 and its established track record on the project.

Phase 2 will include the construction and commissioning of an additional LNG storage tank and two new liquefaction units, known as trains, doubling the facility’s production capacity to approximately 28 million tonnes per annum. The expansion will enhance processing, storage and shipping capabilities to meet growing global demand for reliable LNG.

Phase 2 builds on the current Phase 1 footprint and infrastructure that were designed and engineered from the outset to support the first large-scale, four-train LNG export facility in Canada.

LNG Canada’s Phase 2 decision implements a landmark equity agreement allowing five local First Nations to invest up to $1 billion for majority ownership of the project’s future LNG storage tank. The transaction represents one of the largest Indigenous ownership positions in major Canadian infrastructure.

Located on Canada’s west coast, the LNG Canada site benefits from access to abundant natural gas resources and an ice‑free deepwater harbour. With the Phase 2 expansion, the facility will be positioned to make a greater long‑term contribution to global energy security and strengthen Canada’s position as a leading LNG exporter.
