Friday, January 9, 2015

Wayne Hand has been appointed as the new Dean, School of Construction and the Environment at BCIT. He takes over from Rod Goy, who retired in December 2014.

Wayne has been providing leadership within the School as the Associate Dean, Building Design and Construction Technology for 15 years. During that time he has successfully managed many of the departments in the school and, as such, understands the diversity and quality of our programs. Wayne is well-respected within the construction and environmental sector and understands the importance of that relationship to our departments and students.

Under Wayne’s direction, the School of Construction and the Environment has seen the development of significant research programs and capacity building relating to building science and architectural ecology, the successful application and execution of various industry and government grants, in particular, BCIT’s first Canada Research Chair. He also has lead the development of numerous new credentials, including a Carpentry Framing and Forming Foundation program, Interior Design Diploma and Degree, Architectural Science Degree, two Master degrees in Building Science (the first Master program at BCIT), and numerous Part-time Studies certificates.

Wayne is a Registered Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta and a Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of Calgary.
