Race to Reduce wins NAIOP GTA green award

Thursday, April 17, 2014

CivicAction’s Race to Reduce program was recognized for its sustainable initiatives by the NAIOP Greater Toronto chapter at the Real Estate Excellence (REX) Awards on April 9.

Race to Reduce received the Green Award of the Year, which recognizes excellence, innovation and achievement of sustainable real estate initiatives.

Race to Reduce, which is the second largest regional energy challenge in the world, has 600 landlords and tenants in 176 office buildings across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area participating. In its first two years, the program has seen a collective energy reduction of nine per cent, just one per cent shy of the organization’s four-year reduction target.

“The Race to Reduce is transforming the way landlords and tenants collaborate on their buildings’ environmental performance, and it’s great to see the broader real estate community recognize the new ground we’re breaking,” says Sevaun Palvetzian, CEO of CivicAction.

The NAIOP Greater Toronto chapter also handed out awards for lifetime achievement, community service and developing leaders at the ceremony.

Winners in the other categories are:

  • Developing Leader: Jeff Thomas, partner and broker at Ashlar Urban, and Jonathan Peretz, sales associate at CBRE Limited.
