Edmonton’s Phipps McKinnon building recently received the city’s first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certificate for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (LEED EB:O&M), with a silver ranking.
The 19-storey office building, owned by Canapen Group, is located in downtown Edmonton near the Central LRT station.
Canapen implemented measures from the ASHRAE Level II Energy Assessment to increase energy performance in the building. Through these upgrades and retrofits the building achieved an Energy Star level of 86. Canapen also commissioned Enermodal Engineering to provide LEED consulting and energy audit services.
“This is a great example of how prioritizing occupant comfort and tangible changes to improve energy efficiency can result in a better performing building and a prestigious green building certification,” says Jon Douglas, project manager with Enermodal Engineering.
The LEED EB:O&M rating system helps building owners and operators measure operations, improvements and maintenance on a consistent scale, with the goal of maximizing operational efficiency while minimizing environmental impacts.
